Join Girls on the Run of NWI for LUNAFEST

HAMMOND | Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana will be hosting LUNAFEST on Thursday, June 7 at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond.

The fundraising film festival is dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers and bringing women together in their communities.

The festival will feature short films by, for and about women.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. The Indiana Welcome Center is located at 7770 Corrine Dr., just south of the Kennedy Avenue exit on 80/94.

Tickets are $15 per person.

All proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund and Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana.

Sign up now for our 3rd annual 5K race

Our 3rd annual Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana 5K will be held May 19 at Wicker Memorial Park in Highland. The race starts at 9 a.m.  Online registration is no longer available.  Paper registration applications, are available by clicking the spring 5K link under the “Events” tab.  Cost of the race is $25 for adults and children.

Spring registration is now open!

Registration is now open for Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana’s spring programs.

The 12-week after-school programs use the power of running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The girls train for a 5K race while building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health.

The Girls on the Run program is open to girls in third through fifth grades, while Girls on Track is geared toward girls in sixth through eighth grades.

The programs are held twice a week after school at various locations throughout the region including: Highland, Hammond, Crown Point, Cedar Lake, Munster, Dyer, East Chicago, St. John, Portage, Valparaiso and LaPorte.

Dates and times of the program depend on the location. Training begins the week of March 5.

The program is offered on a sliding scale from $40 up to $120, depending on parents’ incomes. We also offer full financial assistance for girls.

Participants can mail the attached application to: Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana 9824 Terrace Ct., Highland, IN 46322. Registration is capped at 15 girls per team so turn in your application early!

GOTR to host fundraiser on Thursday, June 30

HAMMOND | Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana will be hosting LUNAFEST on Thursday, June 30 at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond.

The fundraising film festival is dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers and bringing women together in their communities.

The festival will feature nine short films by female filmmakers. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.

A reception will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on June 30, with film showings at 6:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. The Indiana Welcome Center is located at 7770 Corrine Dr., just south of the Kennedy Avenue exit on 80/94.

Tickets are $25 per person.

All proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund and Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana.

LUNAFEST, which is created and funded by LUNA®, The Whole Nutrition Bar for Women®, has raised over $360,000 for Breast Cancer Fund and over $570,000 for other women’s nonprofit organizations.

Spring season is starting!

Applications are available for our spring season.  Look for applications at the following locations for Girls on the Run:  Highland (Merkley and Johnston), Hammond (Columbia and O’Bannon), Munster (Frank Hammond), Crown Point (Lake Street and Jerry Ross), LC schools (Kolling and Watson), East Chicago Lighthouse, Hobart (Liberty, Ridge View and Joan Martin) and LaPorte (Critchfield).  Girls on Track (6th – 8th) sites include: Highland (Lincoln Center), Hobart Middle School, Gary Boys and Girls Club and EC Lighthouse.  And save the date for our 2nd Annual New Balance Girls on the Run 5K on May 21st!

FALL FUNDRAISER AT RED ROBIN!

Make some lunch or dinner plans this Wednesday and go to Red Robin in Valpo or Schererville!  Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana is having a fundraiser and 10% of your bill any time on Wednesday will go towards our organization!  All you need is a flyer to give to your server!  There is a silent auction from 4-7:30 pm.  Bring your friends and family and spread the word!  Thanks for your support of Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana! 

Some of the items we have for the auction include:

A bowflex, a gift basket from Horseshoe casino, gift certificates to area restaurants, t-shirts from The Junkyard in Whiting, a scent warmer from Scentsy, products from Arbonne, bread from Panera, wine from Baxter Printing, and gift cards from Family Video.
